SPARKS GLENCOE, Md. -- The Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team were tied with #17 Lynchburg at the half, but the Hornets pulled away in the third quarter and sent the Blue Jays to their second straight loss, 13-6.
Cody Richter and
Scott Nizolak each scored twice for E-town.
Colin Dean and Nick Willertz scored for Lynchburg (3-3) in the first three minutes as they went up 2-0. Elizabethtown (2-4) responded with three in a row to take the lead.
Mike Scrafano assisted on each of the goals as
Andrew Watts,
Cody Richter, and
Mike DiGenova each tallied. Watts recorded his seventh of the season, Richter his first, and DiGenova's third. The Hornets tied it with 2:02 left in the first, but Richter gifted the Jays a 4-3 lead with seven seconds left in the opening quarter.
Nizolak's fourth of the season less than a minute into the second quarter extended the lead to two, though Lynchburg would grab a pair of goals before the end of the half as the teams went into halftime tied 5-5.
The Hornets swarmed the Jays in the third quarter, putting up six goals to take a commanding 11-5 lead. Nizolak got his second of the game in the fourth quarter. DiGenova registered the assist on the goal to stop a 7-0 run Lynchburg run.
Patrick Cornelius didn't allow another goal after Nizolak scored at 13:30 of the fourth, stopping a couple shots in close.
Tom Mahoney finished with 15 saves for Elizabethtown.
The Blue Jays will play at Stockton on Saturday, March 16, at 1 p.m.
