TOWSON, Md. -- Four players for the Elizabethtown College men's basketball team shot 50 percent or better from the floor and reached double figures as the Blue Jays rolled past Goucher, 70-55, Wednesday night at the Decker Sports & Recreation Center.
Michael Pastore had a team-high 18 points in the win.
Pastore had 10 of Elizabethtown's (10-11, 5-6 Landmark) first 16 points and helped the Jays take the lead after an early deficit to Goucher (4-18, 1-10 Landmark).
Brandon Berry, who chipped in 17 points off the bench, broke an 8-8 tie with 16:11 to go in the first half with a jumper in the paint.
Zach Nannen blocked a shot on the ensuing defensive possession,
Bryce Greene grabbed the ball, and at the other end, it was Pastore knocking down another jumper on
Connor Moffatt's assist.
The Blue Jays were up nine, but the Gophers got back within five with under 10 minutes remaining in the half. Pastore drilled a three, and then, after Cameron Isaacs' jumper, Pastore's layup pushed it back to an eight-point lead. Next possession,
Brody Baker got in on the long ball action with a trey to make it 27-16.
Matt Thomas' bucket with 5:43 to go before halftime made it a double-digit advantage for Elizabethtown. The Jays led 35-24 at the half.
Berry and
Ethan DuBois did most of the offensive damage in the second half for E-town. The two each score nine and helped the Blue Jays maintain their double-figure lead throughout the majority of the final 20 minutes. Goucher had a 1:38 span with time running out where they got back within single digits. DuBois put an end to it with a triple on Berry's assist.
Pat Goralski led the Gophers with 16 points and Gabe Ceribelli added 13. The other three starts for Goucher were held to 15 combined points on 6-for-19 shooting. Pastore, Thomas, DuBois, and Berry combined to shoot 21-for-32 from the floor. Along with Pastore's game-high 18 and Berry's 17 off the bench, Thomas finished with 12, and DuBois scored 11.
