Furious Rally Comes Up Short in Landmark Opener

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Falling behind by as many as 21, the Elizabethtown men's basketball team stormed back to force overtime, before falling to Moravian, 90-72, in the two team's Landmark opener Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 3-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference play, while the Greyhounds improve to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in the Landmark.

Senior Connor Moffatt scored a career-high 31 points, including 20 in the second half, and registered his second double-double of the season with 15 rebounds to pace Elizabethtown. Senior Ethan Dubois dropped a season-high 17 points and dished out seven assists while sophomore Zach Nannen was second on the team with 10 rebounds.

Moravian finished the afternoon with six different players in double-figures, led by junior Keith Otto with 23 points. The Greyhounds reserves had a strong showing, outscoring the Blue Jays bench, 47-4.

After going into the halftime down 16 (43-27), Moravian continued to add to its advantage, moving ahead by 21 (56-35) after two free throws by junior John Rigsby with 13:32 remaining in regulation.

From this point forward, Elizabethtown stole the momentum back finishing the second half on a 34-13 run, including 18-straight points to tie the game at 67 with just under three minutes on the clock.

After tying the game at 69 on a layup by Moffatt, Elizabethtown had a great look to win the game, as Moffatt grabbed an offensive board and kicked the ball out to senior Bryce Greene who had a great look from three, but the shot just missed, going in-and-out at the buzzer.

Moravian immediately took back control of the game in the first overtime period, outscoring the Blue Jays 21-3 and earning its first Landmark win of the season, 90-72.

Elizabethtown finished the game 26-67 (38.8%) from the field and 9-28 (32.1%) from three. The Greyhounds shot 45.3% (29-64) overall and were 38.9% (14-36) from beyond the arc.

The Blue Jays break before the holiday break before returning to action on Monday, Dec. 30, against John Jay. Opening tip for Elizabethtown's third home contest of the year is set for 3 p.m.
