ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Elizabethtown men's basketball team ran out to a 24 point lead in the first to snap a two game skid and knock off visiting Valley Forge, 88-65, Wednesday night.
With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Patriots fall to 4-3 overall.
Sophomore
Anthony Hawkins scored a game-high 15 points, with six rebounds and three assists. Senior
Bryce Greene also scored in double figures for Elizabethtown, finishing the night with 12 points.
Freshman Joshua Hosey came off the bench to score a team-high 12 points for Valley Forge.
The Blue Jays flew out to a 16-6 lead just under five minutes into the game as Hakwins took a pass from senior Ethan Dubois and buried a three pointer.
Elizabethtown pushed its advantage to 16 with 13:24 on the clock as freshman
Wyatt Hockenberry flushed one of two from the line.
After the Patriots cut the advantage to nine (25-16), the Blue Jays went on a 20-6 run to end the half, capped off by a three point play from junior
Tyler Rinehimer, making the score 45-21 heading into the second period.
Elizabethtown remained in control in the second half, pushing its lead to as many as 30 and running away with its third victory of the season, 88-65.
The Blue Jays made 35-79 (44.3%) from the field and shot 39.3% (11-28) from three. Valley Forge finished the night 33.8% (23-68) from the field and knocked down 6-26 (23.1%) from beyond the arc.
Leading from start to finish, Elizabethtown dominated nearly every statistical category, highlighted by a 20-8 advantage in fast break points and the Blue Jays bench outscoring the Patriots, 43-29.
The Blue Jays remain at home for its first Landmark Conference game of the season against Moravian on Saturday, Dec. 7. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
