Men's Soccer Heads to Fifth Straight Landmark Championship

SCRANTON, Pa. – For the fifth consecutive year, the Elizabethtown men's soccer team is headed back to the Landmark Conference Championship game after topping Scranton, 1-0, in overtime on the road Tuesday night.

With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 11-5-2 on the season, while the Royals finish the year 11-5-2. Since joining the Landmark in 2014, Elizabethtown has been in every championship game but one, winning its first title last season.

Senior JD Haaf scored the lone goal of the game in the 94th minute, giving him 12 on the season. He is second in the Landmark Conference in goals and points (27).

After a scoreless 90 minutes where neither team could break the scoreless tie, the two teams headed to overtime and the Blue Jays immediately drew a foul in the opening minutes. Elizabethtown looked to take the game after the restart, tallying a goal, but the score was called back due to an offside infraction.

Haaf, however, wasted little time after that, finding a little space on the left side of the Royals' penalty box and firing home the brilliant game winner to the opposite post, avenging the Blue Jays' regular season loss and propelling Elizabethtown to the Landmark Championship game.

Freshman Kelvin Del Cid (11-5-2) secured his first career playoff win and his sixth shutout of the season, making two saves on nine shots.

Sophomore Jakob Hodlofski (11-4-2) made a game-high three saves, allowing the one goal.

Elizabethtown will travel to Washington D.C. on Saturday, Nov. 9, to take on the top seed, Catholic with a ticket to the NCAA Tournament on the line. Game time is to be determined.
