WASHINGTON D.C. – In its fifth consecutive trip to the Landmark Conference Championship, the Elizabethtown men's soccer team fell to No. 21 Catholic, 2-0, Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Blue Jays ends the season 11-6-2, while the Cardinals improve to 18-2-1 and collects the Landmark Conference automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It is the fifth consecutive season that Elizabethtown has finished the season with 10 or more wins. Head coach
Skip Roderick also now has 548 career wins, which is now eighth all-time across all NCAA Divisions.
Senior Ryan Kennedy and junior Nelson Zimmerman each scored for Catholic while junior Andrew Laurenzano and sophomore Paul Egan each tallied an assist.
The Cardinals struck first in the 25th minute, taking advantage of a short free kick as Laurenzano served in a cross to Kennedy who flicked it into the back of the net for the one goal advantage.
The home team pushed its lead to two early in the second half when Egan slipped a pass to Zimmerman inside the penalty box. Zimmerman collected the pass and fired home what proved to be the final goal of the game. Catholic managed to hold the Blue Jays scoreless the rest of the way, earning its first Landmark Championship since 2014.
Freshman
Kelvin Del Cid (11-6-2) finished with four saves, allowing a goal in each half. Del Cid wraps up his first collegiate season with a 1.16 goals against average and six shutouts.
Junior Jack Long (16-2-1) locked up his 11th shutout of the season, making three saves.
