ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Elizabethtown wrestling team dropped its season opening dual, 25-13 to Division II Shippensburg Wednesday night in Thompson Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Blue Jays drop to 0-1 on the season, while the Raiders move to 1-0 overall.

After falling behind 6-0 due to a forfeit at 125, Shippensburg quickly took back the lead, earning decisions at 133, 141, 149 and 157 to move ahead, 12-6.

Junior Kyle Bythell put Elizabethtown back in the win column and cut the Raiders' lead to three, registering a 3-0 decision over sophomore Drake Brenize at 165.

Shippensburg earned the first bonus points of the night, as sophomore Colton Babcock pinned sophomore Hunet Beaudet in 5:23, pushing the Raiders lead to nine (18-9).

Senior Dayne Ross turned the momentum in favor of the Blue Jays, landing a 14-3 major decision over freshman Alex Fouse to make the score 18-13 in favor of the visitors.

Shippensburg however locked up the match at 184, as redshirt sophomore won a tight match over freshman Tyler Phenegar, 8-6, giving the Raiders the eight point advantage going into the 285, 21-13.

Senior Dan Berberick wrapped things up for Shippensburg, scoring the X-X major decision over freshman Keegan McCord, making the final score 25-13 in favor of the Raiders.

The Blue Jays are back in action on Sunday, Nov. 17, when they travel to the U.S. Marine Corps Star City Open hosted by Ferrum. Matches begin at 9 a.m.
