READING, Pa. – Senior
Bryce Greene scored a season-high 26 points leading the Elizabethtown men's basketball team to a 87-73 victory over Penn State Berks Wednesday night.
With the win, the Blue Jays remain undefeated on the season at 2-0 while the Nittany Lions fall to 0-2.
Greene fell one point sure of his career-high, making 9-19 from the field and 5-8 from three. Senior
Connor Moffatt registered his first double-double of the season, racking up 22 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Sophomores
Zach Nannen and
Anthony Hawkins both finished in double figures, scoring 15 and 11 respectively.
Penn State Berks was led by sophomore Anthony McFall who tallied a game-high 33 points.
Holding a one point lead (14-13) after a basket by Moffatt, Elizabethtown scored five straight points, capped off by a layup from freshman
Wyatt Hockenberry to take a 19-13 lead.
The Nittany Lions brought the game back to even at 24 after two free throws from sophomore AJ Colon. Penn State Berks than moved ahead by four after a three from freshman Shakim Davis, making the score 29-25 with 6:36 remaining in the first half.
Battling to the end of the opening stanza, neither team could find a foothold, entering the intermission tied at 41.
The home team made the first move at the start of the second period, taking a six point lead at 51-45 after a steal by freshman Hassan Koroma led to a layup by sophomore RJ Dixon.
Elizabethtown recovered tying the game at 56 before taking control of the game with an 18-3 run for the 13 point lead (72-59) with just over seven minutes remaining in the second half. Moffatt capped off this rally with six consecutive points.
The Blue Jays pushed its lead to as many as 16 points, wrapping up its second straight win to start the 2019-20 season with the 87-73 victory.
Elizabethtown finished the night shooting 54.2% (32-59) from the floor, while knocking down 9-21 (42.9%) from beyond the arc.
The Blue Jays remain on the road and travel to King's on Saturday, Nov. 23 for a non-conference clash. Opening tip is set for 1 p.m.
