ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team split in its first Landmark Conference action, topping Moravian, 3-1, and falling to Susquehanna, 3-0, Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Jays now sit at 17-6 overall and 1-1 in the league play.
Senior
Elle Shatto finished the day with 23 kills and 22 digs, including a double-double in the team's first match of the day (16 kills, 13 digs). Freshman
Bryanna Miller also had a double-double against Moravian (14 kills, 10 digs), recording 22 kills and 16 digs between the two matches. Sophomore
Rileigh Hudock (33) and freshman
Sarah Hanks (31) combined for 63 assists.
ELIZABETHTOWN 3, MORAVIAN 1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 25-14)
- SET ONE: Leading by two (11-9) early in the first set, Elizabethtown rattled off three straight points, forcing a timeout by the Greyhounds. After the timeout, Moravian moved back within on (14-13), registering a 4-0 rally. The Blue Jays continued to lead, stretching their advantage to four at 22-18. The Greyhound managed to get two points back, but Elizabethtown closed out the opening set, scoring three straight points for the 25-20 win.
- SET TWO: Down by one midway through the second set, Moravian increased its lead to 15-10 with a 4-0 run. The Blue Jays charged back, tying things at 19. The Greyhounds however tied the score at one, using a 6-3 rally to take the second 25-22.
- SET THREE: Elizabethtown bounced back in the third set, running out to a 13-6 lead in the third. Moravian attempted to mount a rally, tallying three straight points, but the Blue Jays shut the door on that with a 5-1 rally, making the score 18-10 and forcing a Greyhounds' timeout. Moravian would close within five one last time (19-14), but after taking a timeout, the Blue Jays closed out the third, moving ahead 2-1 with the 25-17 victory.
- SET FOUR: Elizabethtown closed out its first conference win of the season in a big way, racing out to a 17-5 lead. The fourth and final set was never close, as the Blue Jays hits .262 with 13 kills to take the final set 25-14.
ELIZABETHTOWN 0, SUSQUEHANNA 3 (16-25, 12-25, 22-25)
- SET ONE: The Blue Jays battled hard early in the first set, taking a 10-7 lead after a kill by Shatto. The River Hawks, however, answered, tying the match at 11 after a kill from junior Sydney Portale. Susquehanna took control of the set from this points, going on a 10-2 run for the 21-13 lead in its way to the 1-0 lead, 25-16.
- SET TWO: The River Hawks controlled set two from the jump, rushing out to an 11-2 advantage after a kill from freshman Rosina Esposito. Susquehanna used another big run late (10-1) to take home set two and the 2-0 lead 25-12.
- SET THREE: The Blue Jays did not go quietly in the third, knotting things at 16 in the set. Elizabethtown continued to pressure and took a 20-19 lead after two kills from Miller and one from Shatto. The River Hawks, however, followed up with another long run, wrapping up the match with a 6-2 run for the 25-22 victory.
