HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- JD Haaf once again led the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team to a win, this time a 3-0 shutout at Juniata to keep the Blue Jays unbeaten in the Landmark Conference. Haaf scored twice for E-town while
Garrett Winchilla added a goal.
Elizabethtown (7-3-1, 2-0-0 Landmark) doubled up the Eagles in shots in the first half, 8-4, but neither side could find the back of the net as it went to the half tied 0-0.
38 seconds after the whistle to begin the second half, a foul in the box led to a penalty kick for the Blue Jays. Who else but Haaf, a senior captain for E-town, to step up and take it. Haaf struck it and scored for his sixth of the season, which is a new single season career high. That put the Jays ahead 1-0 in the 46th minute.
14 minutes later, it was Haaf again. The Breinigsville, Pa. native made it 2-0 in the 60th minute on an assist from
Kelvin Del Cid and Winchilla. The sophomore was able to get a touch on Del Cid's punt and put it into the pathway of Haaf. It is the second brace in the last three games for Haaf and second consecutive against a conference opponent.
Winchilla netted his first of the season in the 80th minute to put the game away for Elizabethtown. The defense did not allow a shot on goal over the final 16:50 as Del Cid secured the shut out, making three saves in the process.
E-town held the advantage in shots, 17-8, and corners, 4-0.
The men's soccer team will go without a midweek contest coming up and will head to Drew next Saturday, October 12, for a 1 p.m. Landmark Conference matchup with the Rangers.
