Kachel records season-high in saves against #10 Rowan

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Going up against another nationally-ranked non-conference opponent, the Elizabethtown College field hockey team battled tenth-ranked Rowan on Wednesday at Wolf Field. Madeline Kachel stopped a season-high 17 shots for the Blue Jays in a 4-0 loss to the Profs.

Rowan (13-3) was quick to score and get on the front-foot as Krystyna Hovell recorded her first of two goals in the game just 35 seconds after the opening whistle. Vicky Harper had the ball in the middle of the circle and sent it over to her teammate, who was ready for the ball near the left post.

Kachel turned away an early attempt by the Profs in the second quarter, but Bridget Guinan was there to collect the rebound and score her first of two in the contest. Kachel made five of her 17 saves in the second, and though Rowan was controlling the game, Elizabethtown (6-11) was still only down 2-0.

The Blue Jays earned a corner at the end of the first half and Olivia Beachley was close to scoring and cutting the deficit to one, but Morgan Novak was able to keep the ball out of the cage as she scrambled to deny E-town the goal.

Beachley sent in a corner pass four minutes into the third quarter. Lauren Scheib passed back over to Chloe Smith, but her shot from the left wing was blocked. Grace Hussey got a slight deflection on a ball played into the circle by Scheib later in the quarter, but the ball went left of the goal.

Hovell jumped on a rebound late in the third at the left post for her second of the game to give Rowan a 3-0 advantage. Guinan scored her second in the fourth quarter as the Profs left Wolf Field with the 4-0 win.

The field hockey team will prepare for its final game of the regular season. Elizabethtown travels to Washington, D.C. on Saturday, November 2, to face Catholic at 5:30 p.m.
