SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- Madison Kubik was able to score her first goal of the season Wednesday night for the Elizabethtown College field hockey team, but it came in a 3-1 loss at Swarthmore.
Madeline Kachel had one save in the game, which she made 4:18 into the game on Marion Carr's shot. A follow up attempt from Martina Kampel was blocked.
A few minutes later, Swarthmore (5-9) started the scoring on a goal from Heide Van Voorhis to make it 1-0.
Down a goal in the second,
Grace Hussey put a shot on goal, but Aron Lankford made the stop for the Garnet to keep her side in front. Elizabethtown (5-10) held Swarthmore without a shot in the second quarter, but still trailed 1-0 at halftime.
The Blue Jays tied the game in the third quarter as
Emily Garvin and Kubik connected for the score 4:57 into the period. E-town's defense made a pair of blocks in the third and the game went tied 1-1 into the final quarter.
Andie Tappenden put the Garnet back into the lead 27 seconds into the fourth and Carr pushed the advantage to two a little over seven minutes later.
Elizabethtown had some penalty corner opportunities with time winding down, but couldn't convert any into a goal to get back into the game.
Swarthmore finished with a 9-7 edge in shots, while the Jays finished plus-one in the penalty corner column, 5-4.
The Blue Jays will host Goucher on Saturday, October 26, at 1 p.m. and will also recognize their six seniors in a pregame ceremony at Wolf Field.
