Blue Jays Drop First Landmark Game of the Season

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Elizabethtown men's soccer team dropped its first Landmark Conference game of the season, falling to visiting Scranton, 2-1, Saturday afternoon on Ira R. Herr Field.

With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 9-4-1 overall and 3-1-0 in conference play, while the Royals improve to 8-4-2 on the season and 3-1-0 in the Landmark.

Senior Connor Rathsam netted Elizabethtown's lone goal, burying a penalty kick late in the second half.

Scranton was led by tallies from freshman Christian Arcos and senior Michael Donnelly. Senior Justin Hammert recorded the Royals' lone assist.

After a physical opening 30 minutes, Scranton found the first goal of the game after Arcos forced a turnover in the attacking third and fired a shot from the top of the 18 for the 1-0 advantage.

The Blue Jays began to press at the start of second half, but the Royals took advantage of another Elizabethtown mistake, as Hammert looped in a cross from the left side. Freshman goalkeeper Kelvin Del Cid attempted to get to the service, but it tipped off his fingers, falling to Donnelly who slotted it into the right side of the net.

Rathsam brought the Blue Jays within one in the 82nd minute, firing a penalty kick into the left side of the net, but that is as close as Elizabethtown would get, dropping its first conference game, 2-1.

Del Cid (9-4-1) made two saves on eight shots allowing his first goal since Sept. 28.

Sophomore Jake Hodlofski (7-4-2) made four saves on 11 shots.

The Blue Jays are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 23 when they host Moravian. Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
