Men's Soccer Cruises Past Chargers

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Elizabethtown men's soccer team pushed its winning streak to five, topping Lancaster Bible, 5-0, in non-conference action Wednesday night.

With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 9-3-1 overall, while the Chargers fall to 9-4-1. Elizabethtown has outscored its opponents 16-1 over the last five.

Sophomore Garrett Winchilla registered his first career hat trick, scoring the Blue Jays' first three goals of the game. Winchilla has been on a roll as of late, tallying five goals and 11 points over his last three games.

Freshman Tate Mohney finished with a career-high three assists, while senior JD Haaf had a goal and an assist. Senior Cameron scored Elizabethtown's final goal of the game.

Elizabethtown jumped on the score board in the 19th minute as Winchilla collected a rebound and fired it into the back of the net for the early one goal advantage.

Winchilla pushed the Blue Jays' lead to two before the end of the half, as he took advantage of a miscue between the keeper and defender, slotting home his second of the game.

In the 54th minute, Winchilla wrapped up his hat trick, collecting a cross from Mohney and firing it home for the three goal lead.

15 seconds later, Haaf increased Elizabethtown's lead to four, forcing a turnover at the top of Lancaster Bible's penalty box and then chipping the keeper for the 4-0 advantage.

Sheva capped off the scoring for the Blue Jays', as Mohney sent a cross into the box that was flicked on by Haaf to Sheva who rifled home Elizabethtown's final goal of the game, giving them the 5-0 victory.

Freshman Kelvin Del Cid (9-3-1) started in goal for the Blue Jays making four saves. Sophomore Nick Pilny and freshman Ethan Higgins completed the game in goal, combining for one save and completing Elizabethtown's fourth straight shutout.

Junior Jake Deterline (9-4-1) started in goal for the Chargers, making four saves and allowing four goals. Senior CJ DeMarsico made one save and allowed one goal in relief while freshman Isaac Barrow wrapped up the game, making one save.

Men's soccer returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 19, for the team's homecoming matchup against Scranton. Opening kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
