HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team snapped a two-match losing streak, topping Penn State Harrisburg, 3-0, in non-conference action Thursday night.
With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 18-7, while the Nittany Lions fall to 9-9.
Freshman
Bryanna Miller finished with a double-double, recording 13 kills and 10 digs. Senior
Elle Shatto also had double digit kills (12), while junior
Aiyana Tietze-Di Toro had a team-high 14 digs. Freshman
Sarah Hanks (19) and sophomore
Rileigh Hudock (16) combined for 25 assists.
ELIZABETHTOWN 3, PENN STATE HARRISBURG 0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-21)
• SET ONE: The Blue Jays jumped out to a six point lead (14-8) after an attack error by Cheyanna Buckingham. Penn State Harrisburg, however, mounted a comeback, scoring five straight points to move within one (14-13). Elizabethtown took the momentum right back, going on a 6-1 run to push its lead to seven on its way to the 25-17 opening set victory.
• SET TWO: The Nittany Lions stormed back midway through the second set, racing out to a 17-11 lead after back-to-back kills from Buckingham. The Blue Jays rallied with an 8-0 run capped off by kills by Shatto and sophomore
Shelly Yohe for the one point advantage (18-17). Elizabethtown continued to roll, pushing its lead to three (22-19), forcing a Penn State Harrisburg timeout. The Nittany Lions scored one more point, but that is as close as they would get, as the Blue Jays took the second set 25-22.
• SET THREE: Elizabethtown once again found themselves in a hole midway through the final set, falling behind the hosts, 13-11. The Blue Jays once again used a big rally to steal momentum back, using a 10-3 run for the 22-17 advantage. Penn State Harrisburg would only get as close as three as Hudock wrapped up the night with a kill for the 25-21 win and the straight-set victory.
