TOWSON, Md. -- Connor Moffatt sank the game-winning shot on Saturday and averaged a double-double over the past three contests for the Elizabethtown College men's basketball team. The junior was named the Landmark Conference's Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week Monday afternoon by the league office.
After a 13 point, 10 rebound game at Wilson on December 18, Moffatt continued his good form on Sunday, December 30 at John Jay in a 67-55 win for the Blue Jays. Moffatt hit nine of his 13 shot attempts, including 5-for-8 from beyond the arc to finish with 26 points.
This past Saturday against nationally-ranked Scranton, Moffatt played 36 minutes and ended just one rebound short of a double-double. That ninth rebound, however, was the most important of the game as he grabbed the board on the Royals' potential game-winning shot. Instead, Moffatt hauled in the rebound inside the foul line, dribbled across half court with a defender on his left shoulder, and launched a running three-pointer that swished through the net as time expired to lift the Blue Jays over No. 25 Scranton, 67-64.
Over the three holiday break contests, Moffatt shot a little under 60 percent from the floor and 50 percent from deep to help Elizabethtown to a 2-1 stretch and even the record at 6-6 while earning the first Landmark Conference win of the season.
E-town hosts Goucher on Wednesday, January 9, at 7 p.m.
