Dorr scores first career goal at TCNJ

EWING, N.J. -- Senior midfielder Cameron Dorr struck for his first career goal Sunday, but Elizabethtown could not capitalize on it, falling 3-1 to The College of New Jersey in the TCNJ Classic.

The Blue Jays started in the hole again after allowing Abdullah Afridi to score on the game's first shot at 4:38.

E-town (0-3-1) keeper Brian Gately was well out of his net to receive a pass from a teammate, but Afridi stole the ball and pushed it into the open net from just outside the 18-yard box. Rutgers-Camden also scored on its first shot against the Jays a day earlier.

Unbeaten TCNJ added to its lead in the 18th minute on a penalty kick from Joerg Jauk. The Lions' Nick Sample was tripped just inside the left corner of the 18-yard box and Jauk converted the PK, barely evading the outstretched arms of a diving Gately.

Despite being down 2-0 at half, the Blue Jays had their chances. They outshot TCNJ 8-7 in the first 45 minutes, but Lions (5-0) keeper Michael Kayal made three saves and his defense blocked three additional E-town attempts.

Dorr drew the Jays within a goal with a beautiful shot from 25 yards out in the 73rd minute. The Baltimore, Maryland native found an opening in the center of the field and after a handful of touches, ripped a shot over the head of Kayal.

Elizabethtown kept the pressure on following Dorr's goal. Clark Williamson had a shot stopped by Kayal in the 76th minute and Gilbert Waso was denied in the 80th.

TCNJ put the game out of reach in the final minutes when Ryan Vazquez improbably spun through three E-town defenders just inside the 18 and beat Gately far side for a 3-1 lead.

The Blue Jays held a 17-12 advantage in shots and an 8-5 edge in shots on goal, while the Lions took eight corners to E-town's five.

Kayal totaled seven saves for TCNJ, while E-town's Gately finished with two.

Elizabethtown, which hasn't started a season winless in its first four games since 2008 when it went 7-9-2, is scheduled to host its home opener on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against Franklin & Marshall.
