#19 Rutgers-Newark downs Blue Jays

EWING, N.J. -- Rutgers-Newark, ranked 19th in NCAA Division III, scored on its first shot of the game and added two more goals in the second half for a 3-0 victory over the Elizabethtown men's soccer team on Saturday at the TCNJ Classic.

Less than three minutes into the match, Ariel Parada finished a Stefano Muniz cross for a 1-0 Scarlet Raiders' lead.

The Blue Jays (0-2-1) had ample opportunities to tie it in the first 45 minutes, firing six shots, but Rutgers-Newark keeper Christian Andrach was up to the task.

Andrach stopped Garrett Winchilla's scoring bid in the 14th minute and also snuffed out attempts from Travis Wilson in the 26th, Mitchell Gochnauer in the 38th and Massimo Mazzella in the 41st.

Rutgers-Newark (2-2) expanded upon its lead with two goals in a 12-minute run. Anthony Oliveira made it 2-0 in the 58th minute and Pape Taha, who set up Oliveira's goal, collected his second of the year in the 70th.

Elizabethtown outshot the Scarlet Raptors 13-12, but could not crack Andrach, who finished with six saves.

Brian Gately started in goal for E-town and made two saves in 76 minutes. Andrew McGowan played the final 13:51.

The Blue Jays will take on host The College of New Jersey tomorrow afternoon at 3:30.
