MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team avenged last year's overtime loss to Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday afternoon with a 3-0 blanking of the Lions. Three different players scored for E-town for the second consecutive game to start the season.
Christine Fox earned her first career shutout in the win.
Janelle Barna had the game's first scoring chance, which came in the first minute of play. 48 seconds in and the sophomore had a shot stopped by Penn State Harrisburg (1-2) goalie Kayla Arnold. Minutes later,
Shannon Conlon's shot was blocked. The Lions were held without a shot through the first 23 minutes.
Christine Fox made her first of three saves in the game in the 24th minute, saving Kaeleigh Smedley's attempt. A follow-up by Mackenzie Haladay sailed high and Elizabethtown (2-0) remained in the scoreless tie with PSH.
Lydia Lawson was looking for her third goal of the 2018 campaign when her shot careened off the crossbar in the 35th minute. Conlon and Lawson would each hit paydirt for the Blue Jays in the second half.
Lawson helped assist on the first goal of the game for E-town, setting up
Alli Lasky for her second goal of the season in the 52nd minute. Last Friday, it was Lasky that assisted on Lawson's first of two goals against Rutgers-Camden.
Arnold faced a penalty shot in the 54th minute, but made the save and kept Penn State Harrisburg within a goal.
The Jays' defense did not allow a shot on target for nearly 30 minutes of the second half. Haley Vavrek put one on frame, but Fox made the save.
E-town's final two goals came in a flurry. First, Lawson set up Conlon for her first goal of the season in the 79th minute. Lawson then got on the scoresheet with her third of the year 2:59 after Conlon's goal made it 2-0. The junior forward's tally came in the 82nd minute and put the game away for good.
Elizabethtown outshot Penn State Harrisburg 11-7 and had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Blue Jays will host Gettysburg on Saturday, September 8, at 7 p.m.
