Second-half goals send Susquehanna past women's soccer

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- After an evenly played first half, Susquehanna scored twice in the second half to pull off a 2-0 victory over the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team in the Landmark Conference opener for both schools.

Elizabethtown (2-3-2, 0-1 Landmark) had the early shot advantage and Susquehanna (6-1-1, 1-0 Landmark) had to stop a Lydia Lawson shot in the 14th minute to keep the game scoreless.

E-town had three of their four corner kicks between the 22nd and 23rd minutes, but couldn't produce a goal off the set piece opportunities. The Blue Jays finished the first half with a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.

The River Hawks began to take control of the game early in the second half as Anna Werner put the hosts on top 1-0 in the 52nd minute with her second goal of the season. Susquehanna had a 7-2 advantage in shots over the final 45 minutes.

Emily Sullivan all but sealed the game for Susquehanna in the 84th minute. The ball was flicked on to Sullivan, who finished into the upper left corner of the net, her second of the season.

Alli Lasky attempted to cut the lead in half 35 seconds later, but Welliver made another save and kept her clean sheet intact. Christine Fox and Welliver each made two saves in the game.

Elizabethtown will host York (Pa.) on Wednesday, September 26, at 7 p.m.
