READING, Pa. -- Elizabethtown College men's tennis earned its first win of the fall season, 7-2, at Albright on Saturday afternoon.
Alec Schneider and
Julian LeMaire set the tone for the Blue and Gray (1-1) with an 8-1 victory at third doubles.
Nick Strobel and
Evan Winters followed with an 8-4 decision over Armando Santana and Zach Schulties at No. 2, but the Lions (0-4) avoided the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 1.
Elizabethtown got off to a fast start in singles with three dominant victories.
Schneider was on his way to a sweep of Brody Brown at fifth singles, but Brown retired trailing 6-0, 4-0 in the second.
LeMaire defeated Ron Adanje 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 and Winters swept Schulties 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.
E-town senior Nick Stroble ceded just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Santana at No. 3, while
Tyler Spinello downed Noah Jessie 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1.
Albright's Dylan Okonski held off a challenge from
Tristan Boheim at No. 2 in the only match to go three sets. Each of the first two sets went to a tiebreaker, with Okonski claiming the first 7-6 (5) and Boheim returning the favor in the second, 7-6 (2). Okonski gained early control in the super tiebreaker to win it 10-3.
Elizabethtown likely finishes its fall season 1-1 after it was announced late Saturday that Sunday's match against York (Pa.) will be shifted to the spring season due to the threat of inclement weather.
