ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Elizabethtown women's tennis got its fall season off to a fast start, Saturday, with a 9-0 shutout of visiting Lycoming at the Alumni Courts.
Seniors
Meghan Chemidlin and
Amber Burd did some sweeping of their own, blanking Kim Parroccini and Allyson Dugan, 8-0, at second doubles to give the Blue Jays (1-0) an early 2-0 lead after third doubles wasn't contested.
The Warriors (1-1) put up more of a fight at first doubles, but junior
Lenea Riehl and freshman
Kailey Caroland came through in the tiebreaker 9-8 (6) to give Elizabethtown all three available points.
Singles was all E-town. All five contested matches went to the Blue Jays in straight sets.
Chemidlin only dropped one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Parroccini at No. 3. Riehl put forth matching 6-1, 6-1 scores to defeat Hannah Summerson in the top-flight match, while Burd handled Dugan 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4.
Caroland got past Brittany Lenze 6-3, 6-1 at second single and
Laura Gribble held on for a 6-4, 6-2 win over Wiliana Lundy at fifth singles.
Elizabethtown will wrap up the weekend with a noon match against Penn State Harrisburg on Sunday.
