Donlin sets new career high in loss to Ursinus

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Margo Donlin had her fifth career game with 10 or more saves Wednesday evening against Ursinus in non-conference action at Wolf Field. Donlin set a new career-high with 14 saves in a 3-0 loss to the Bears.

Donlin had to be alert early as Bridget Sherry and Erin Saybolt put shots on frame, both of which Donlin stopped. The senior made back-to-back saves on Saybolt and Brianne Nicholas with a little over nine minutes gone by in the first half. Gemma Dufoe had two chances at putting the ball in the cage for Ursinus (2-2), but there was Donlin to deny the Bears the game's first goal.

While Elizabethtown (3-2) struggled relieve the pressure on its defense, Ursinus continued to attack. It would finally pay off with less than two minutes to go in the half as Nicholas collected a shot that was saved at the right of goal and put home her opportunity for a 1-0 lead and her first of the season.

Ursinus held a 1-0 lead at the half and had outshot the Blue Jays, 12-1.

E-town was pinned back in the opening moments of the second half and Donlin was called upon again to keep it 1-0. Dufoe started a sequence where the Jays' goalie was forced to make three saves in a 30-second span. Still, the Bears' lead remained just 1-0 thanks to the stellar play of Donlin.

Gabriela Howell put a penalty corner in play for UC and Devon Carroll dished the ball across the circle to Nicholas, who received the pass and went five-hole for her second of the game. Nicholas would complete her hat trick with just over 10 minutes to go off another rebound.

Lauren Scheib had Elizabethtown's best offensive chance. Olivia Beachley inserted a corner that went to Emily Garvin out at the top of the circle. Garvin moved the ball left to Maggie Fees, who took the ball on the left and launched a shot at goal. Ursinus goalie Jules Singer came out to play the ball, but Scheib cut in front and got her stick on the ball to redirect it at goal. The ball caromed off Singer's pads for the save.

Donlin made her 14th and final save of the game with 6:16 to go, giving her a new career-high. She made 13 saves at Washington & Lee a year ago and had made 12 saves at Ursinus in 2017.

Elizabethtown will host Washington & Lee on Saturday, September 15, at 1 p.m.
