Women's volleyball wraps up Puget Sound Premiere

TACOMA, Wash. -- Mackenzie Garner moved within 13 kills of 900 for her career with 25 on Saturday, but the Blue Jays were unable to break into the win column at the Puget Sound Premiere.

Elizabethtown dropped a five-setter to Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 3-2, and were downed by host Puget Sound, 3-1, in its weekend finale. Garner was the team's lone representative on the Puget Sound All-Premiere Team with 42 kills and eight blocks in four matches.

WISCONSIN-OSHKOSH 3, ELIZABETHTOWN 2
25-16, 22-25, 17-25, 25-20, 15-9

E-town's first win was within its grasp after winning the second and third sets, but the Blue Jays dug an early hole in the fourth and allowed a pair of big runs in the fifth in suffering a 3-2 setback.

Garner led all players with 14 kills and Marisa Krinock had 13. The duo also paved the way at the net defensively with Garner racking up five blocks and Krinock three.

Freshman Rileigh Hudock, who had a double-double in both matches Saturday, posted 36 assists and 10 digs. Washington native Aiyana Tietze-Di Toro paced the Jays (0-3) with 15 digs.

A kill and block from Garner coupled with two Oshkosh errors had the Blue and Gray up 4-1 in the decisive fifth set, but the Titans (2-1) rattled off seven unanswered points.

Garner, Hudock and Krinock each had a kill to pull Elizabethtown back within 9-8, before Oshkosh put together another run --this one 5-0-- to set up match point.

Elle Shatto finished with eight kills, 13 digs and a pair of aces for the Jays.

Carly Lemke's 13 kills were tops for Oshkosh. Renee Rush followed with 11 and Shelby Coron had eight. Emma Kiekhofer assisted on 34 of the Titans' 54 kills, while Rachel Gardner had 28 digs.

PUGET SOUND 3, ELIZABETHTOWN 1
25-13, 25-21, 20-25, 25-15

Host Puget Sound was strong on offense and defense in a four-set win over the Blue Jays in their final match of the tournament.

Garner was the only Elizabethtown player to reach double figures in kills with 11. Hudock totaled 29 assists and 18 digs, with Allison Fischer (11) and Aiyana Tietze-Di Toro (10) also recording double-digit digs.

The Loggers (1-2) were ultra-efficient, however. They hit better than .200 in every set, including a match-high .522 (14 kills-2 errors-23 attempts) in the first.

Puget Sound, led by Alli Reviglio's 13 kills and 10 from Sadie Alloway, had at least 10 kills in each set.

E-town (0-4) found the going tough offensively. The Loggers' Marcelle Rutherford totaled 11 blocks (3 solos, 8 assists) contributing to the Blue Jays' .060 hitting percentage in the match.

Two kills by Garner and two by rookie Elizabeth Zeiber pushed the Blue Jays out in front, 11-3, in the fourth. Elizabethtown never looked back and avoided a sweep with a 25-20 victory.

An ace by Fischer had E-town within 13-12 in the fourth, but Puget Sound closed the match on a 12-3 run.

Reviglio supplemented her team-best 13 kills with additional team-highs of 16 digs and three aces. Aliah Ayau assisted on 23 kills and Sarah Blumenfield came up two kills shy of a triple-double (8 kills, 18 assists, 13 digs).

Of Elizabethtown's eight aces, a career-high four came from sophomore Jenna Harne. Sarah Schneider added three.
