Blue Jays draw with Babson

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Neither Elizabethtown nor Babson could crack the scoreboard over the course of 110 minutes, playing to a scoreless draw in Saturday evening's non-conference match at the Manheim Township Athletic Complex.

The Blue Jays (0-1-1) outshot the Beavers 16-12 and had a 7-5 edge in shots on goal, though critical scoring chances for each side were limited.

Clark Williamson's drive from the right side in the 84th minute was knocked just over the crossbar by Babson (0-0-2) keeper Steven Heintzelman. It was likely E-town's most dangerous opportunity.

Earlier in the going, Babson's Noah Parker found himself with all kinds of space in the middle of the field and unloaded a shot that forced Blue Jays' keeper Brian Gately to sprawl out to his right. The senior got his right glove on the shot to deny the Beavers' go-ahead bid.

Babson applied a good deal of pressure in overtime, out-chancing the Jays 6-2 during the two 10-minute periods. A Ross Shellow corner kick in the 103rd minute nearly resulted in the game-winning goal, but Chris Czarnecki's deflection of a teammate's shot hit the left post.

Three minutes later, Parker's shot was stopped by Gately. The ball got away from the Eilzabethtown netminder just briefly, but he recovered just in time to keep the Beavers' Alex Crompton from poking it in.

Gately finished with five saves for his eighth career shutout with the team. Heintzelman had seven stops for Babson.

Blue Jay forwards Gilbert Waso and Garrett Winchilla combined for eight shots, with Waso firing a game-high five. Crompton and Parker paced the Beavers with three each.

Elizabethtown will take part in the TCNJ Classic next weekend, starting with a game against Rutgers-Newark on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
