Knight, Manning selected to Academic All-District Team

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Elizabethtown College juniors Anthony Knight and Derek Manning have been voted to the 2018 Google Cloud NCAA Division III Academic All-District® Baseball Team.

Teams were announced Thursday afternoon by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Knight and Manning were among 11 players selected from District 4, which is made up of Pennsylvania's DIII institutions. Knight, of Lancaster, got the nod at catcher, while Manning, from East Petersburg, was one of three outfielders selected.

Knight is having a breakout season in 2018, having already set new career highs of nine doubles, two triples, two home runs, 14 runs batted in, 39 runs and 14 stolen bases while hitting .378 (42-for-111).

Knight, a Penn Manor High School graduate, ranks second in the Landmark Conference in on base percentage (.493), second in runners caught stealing (11), tied for third in runs, fourth in stolen bases and fifth in batting average.

The business administration major is carrying a 3.95 grade point average and has been named to the Dean's List in each of his semesters at Elizabethtown College. Knight was also recognized as an Emergent Scholar at the College in March, 2017, and is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.

Manning is only using his second season of athletic eligibility after missing the 2017 season, but his return is a major reason the Blue Jays tied for the top spot in the Landmark regular season standings.

Manning is one double shy of tying Steve Luongo's single-season record of 21, set back in 2002, as Elizabethtown heads into this weekend's Landmark Conference Championship tournament.

A Hempfield High School grad, Manning leads the Landmark in multiple offensive categories. He's tops in batting average (.453), hits (63), doubles (20), on base percentage (.506), slugging percentage (.676) and total bases (94). Manning also ranks tied for third in runs scored (39) and fifth in runs batted in (34).

Manning currently sits third in all of NCAA Division III with 0.56 doubles per game, fifth in total doubles and 11th in batting average.

A computer engineering major with a 4.0 GPA, Manning is a five-time Dean's List student. He was also named an Emergent Scholar at Elizabethtown in March, 2017, and is part of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.

The 2018 season marks the seventh in a row in which Elizabethtown baseball has had a representative on the Academic All-District® Team. To see a full list of honorees since 1984, click here.
