Men's tennis drops Landmark matches to Susquehanna, Juniata

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- A pair of Landmark Conference opponents were able to get the best of Elizabethtown this weekend as Susquehanna sent the Blue Jays to a 9-0 defeat on Saturday and Juniata did the same on Sunday.

Ryan Caris and Tyler Spinello won three games at first doubles, but the Blue Jays were unable to snag a point of the River Hawks (6-3, 1-1 Landmark).

Susquehanna continued to roll in singles, winning the first three flights to secure the match.

Nick Strobel and Alec Schneider competed hard at No. 4 and No. 6 singles for the Blue Jays. Strobel was within striking distance in both sets, but ulimately fell to Ryan Seibert 7-5, 6-4. Schneider almost sent his match to a super tiebreaker before coming up just short in a second set tiebreaker against Ashton Collins 6-3, 7-6 (8).

Elizabethtown's No. 1 doubles team again tried to carry the banner, but Juniata proved too strong in both doubles and singles, sending the Jays to their second straight shutout loss.

Ryan Caris and Tyler Spinello took to the court together again, but came out on the wrong end of a 9-7 decision against the Eagles' (7-5, 2-0) Matyas Kohout and Dan Ansel.

Juniata cruised to victories at second and third doubles, and won all six singles matches in straight sets.

E-town's (2-7, 1-2) best threats to win a set were Spinello at No. 2 and Schneider at No. 6. Spinello fell to Daichi McAuliffe-Uchida 6-4, 6-3 and Schneider was edged by Rob Kauffman 6-3, 6-4.

Elizabethtown hosts a non-conference match against King's (Pa.) on Thursday at 4 p.m.
