Women's tennis silences Susquehanna in Landmark opener

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown women's tennis team finally got back in the swing of things after three weeks without a match, Saturday, making quick work of Susquehanna en route to an 8-1 victory in its Landmark Conference opener.

Susquehanna's (3-8, 0-2 Landmark) only win of the day was also the first win, as Hannah Maykut and Julia Spear edged Elizabethtown's duo of Sarah Donner and Kaitlyn O'Connor at third doubles, 8-6.

It was all Blue Jays from there.

The top doubles team of Lenea Riehl and Meghan Chemidlin doubled up the River Hawks' Linsey Sipple and Cassey Fox 8-4, and E-town's second team of Amber Burd and Laura Gribble did the same against Abagail Ransom and Eliza Griffin.

Elizabethtown (4-3, 1-0) went on to sweep all six singles matches in straight sets.

Chemidlin earned her 70th career combined win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Ransom at second singles, while Burd reached 40 all-time wins with her 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Griffin at No. 3.

Riehl handled Sipple 6-1, 6-2 in the top flight matchup, Donner downed Fox 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4, Gribble cruised over Maykut 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 and O'Connor ousted Spear 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.

Elizabethtown returns to its home courts on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. to face Juniata.
