Lippy, Manning sweep weekly Landmark baseball awards

TOWSON, Md. -- A successful unbeaten week in Landmark Conference play resulted in Elizabethtown College's Anthony Lippy and Derek Manning sweeping Monday's weekly conference awards. Lippy was named Pitcher of the Week and Manning Athlete of the Week.

The Blue Jays compiled a 6-1 overall record last week to jump above .500 (17-16), but more importantly was a 5-0 record against Landmark opponents. Those victories clinched a postseason spot for the defending Landmark champs and E-town has elevated to second in the conference standings with a chance to capture the No. 1 seed by sweeping Drew next weekend.

Lippy threw a complete game three-hitter and matched a career-high with eight strikeouts in an 8-2 game one victory over Juniata on Saturday, his only appearance of the week. He allowed just one earned run (two total) and one walk in another dominant performance. The Hanover, Pennsylvania native improved to 5-4 on the season with his Landmark-leading fifth complete game of the season. Lippy also leads the conference with 67.1 innings pitched, is tied for the lead in wins, ranks third in ERA (2.94) and tied for fifth in strikeouts (48).

Manning, the Landmark Conference's leading hitter, continued to rake last week with a .560 batting average (14-for-25) and raised his conference-best average to .434 in the process. The junior outfielder from East Petersburg, Pennsylvania had five multi-hit performances in seven games, including three straight three-hit efforts. Six of his hits went for extra bases (five doubles, one triple) and he drove in 10 runs.

Manning also scored nine runs, walked three times, did not register a strikeout and stole three bases. He started the week by going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two stolen bases in a 12-11 non-conference win over Franklin & Marshall on Monday. Manning only bolstered his numbers in a doubleheader sweep of Scranton on Tuesday, collecting three hits in each game and four RBIs in game two. He finished the twin bill 6-for-11 with four doubles, four RBIs and four runs scored. Manning ended the week with a pair of two-hit games in victories over Juniata, as the Blue Jays completed a weekend sweep and clinched a spot in the upcoming Landmark Championship tournament.

Lippy is the third Elizabethtown hurler to be recognized as Landmark Pitcher of the Week this season, following Braden Stinar on April 2 and Mike Garvey last Monday. Manning, meanwhile, is the Blue Jays' first Athlete of the Week since April 17, 2017.
