Christy, pitchers dominate for baseball in doubleheader sweep at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Mike Christy outscored Juniata on his own in game one and Anthony Lippy and Braden Stinar both pitched complete games for the Elizabethtown College baseball team on Saturday to open a Landmark Conference series against the Eagles. Christ had four RBIs on the day while Lippy and Stinar combined to strike out 17 batters.

Christy sent a 2-1 pitch with one out in the second inning to left center for a home run that opened the scoring for Elizabethtown (16-16, 9-5 Landmark). The solo shot was his third of the season and first in seven games as a part of his 3-for-3 game-one effort.

Juniata (10-25, 3-14 Landmark) got to Lippy in the second with a two-RBI double by Josh Keszczyk that gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead. After the second inning, Juniata didn't touch Lippy for another hit the rest of the way as all three came in the first two innings.

While the senior ace shut down the Eagles, the Blue Jays got the offense rolling. Nick Lorenz doubled to right in the third, scoring Brennan Snyder and Colby Smith. Christ hit a sac fly to center, deep enough to allow Derek Manning to score and make it 4-2 E-town. James Kantner also had a sac fly RBI in the inning and the Jays led 5-2 after three innings.

Anthony Knight homered to left center in the fourth, Kantner added his second RBI of the game in the fifth, and Christy drove in his third run of the game in the seventh. Lippy sat down the side in order in the seventh to gift Elizabethtown the series-opening win.

Stinar pitched effectively for the Blue Jays as well. After seeing Lippy whiff eight batters, Stinar put down nine via the strikeout in his nine-inning effort.

Kantner gave E-town an early 1-0 lead with an RBI double to left center in the top of the second. Lorenz, Christy, and Kantner each had RBI hits in the third as Elizabethtown increased its lead to 4-0 by the fourth inning. Manning added to it with a two-RBI double to right field. Lorenz followed with with his second RBI in as many innings and the doors were blown open on the game, 7-0 in the fourth.

Juniata got one back in the fifth, but the Jays nixed that with a run in the sixth as an error allowed Manning to score from second. The Eagles tacked on a few runs late in the game, but Stinar had the game in control and finished off the Eagles in the ninth to secure the win and move to 4-1 on the season.

Christy finished the day 5-for-7 and tied Kantner for the team-high with four RBIs each. Lippy threw seven innings for his fifth win in game one allowing two runs and one earned with his 8 Ks. Stinar went the distance in game two with four runs surrendered and 9 Ks.

Elizabethtown and Juniata finish up their series tomorrow in Huntingdon, Pa. with a 12 p.m. start to the third and final game.
