Mahoney collects second Landmark Defensive AOTW award

TOWSON, Md. -- Elizabethtown sophomore goalie Tom Mahoney was chosen as the Landmark Conference Men's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season when the league office announced its weekly awards on Monday.

Mahoney had a 5.85 goals against average and registered his second 20-save game of the season last week as the Blue Jays went 1-1.

In Wednesday's 9-5 victory over Moravian, the Hillsborough, New Jersey native stopped seven shots and recorded a .583 save percentage for his fourth win of the season. He was even more impressive, albeit in a losing effort, against likely NCAA tournament participant Colorado College on Friday.

Mahoney stifled the Tigers' offense, which came into the game ranked top 10 nationally in scoring offense (sixth) and points per game (fourth). He posted 20 saves, exceeded only by the E-town single-game record 27 he made against No. 2 York (Pa.) earlier this season, and a .741 save percentage. Mahoney held Colorado College, which is receiving votes in the USILA Division III Coaches Poll, to its lowest goal total in any game this season (seven) and more than nine below its 16.45 season average. His performance put Elizabethtown in position for the upset, but the Tigers scored twice in the final 3:16 of regulation to force overtime and pulled out a 7-6 victory with 57 seconds left in the extra session.

Mahoney leads the Landmark with a .605 save percentage and ranks third in GAA (8.38) and saves (118), despite having the fewest starts (nine) of any of the top six goalies.
