Game Recap: Softball |

Susquehanna takes two from softball

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- A game-one comeback effort was cut short for the Elizabethtown College softball team as Susquehanna went on to take game two and sweep the Blue Jays in a Landmark Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Sassafras Field. Lindsey Fasolo had a team-high two RBIs for E-town in game one.

Susquehanna (23-9, 7-3 Landmark) had a commanding 8-0 lead after the third inning, but Elizabethtown (15-11, 2-8 Landmark) didn't go down without a fight.

Jess Kutteroff scored on an error in the fourth inning and the Jays had their first run of the game. Kutteroff then drove in a run in the sixth, bringing home Kirstin Blass to make it 8-2. The five-run rally continued as another error on a hit by Sarah Personette allowed Kutteroff to score her second run of the game. Fasolo drove in both of her runs on a single hit, a double to right center. Wendy Header capped the Jays' five-run sixth with an RBI single to center. E-town trailed 8-6 at that point.

The River Hawks responded with two runs in the next half inning, the final runs of the game, which ended 10-6.

Emma Varrato and Header each had two hits for the Jays in game one.

Despite being outhit in game two, Susquehanna scored the only three runs of the game in the fifth inning. Elizabethtown left eight on base, with runners in scoring position in the first, second, third, and seventh innings.

Blass was the only player with a multi-hit effort. Kutteroff, Varrato, Christina Dark, and Header also had hits for E-town.

Elizabethtown plays at Muhlenberg on Monday, April 23, for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
