Blue Jays swept by pair of conference foes

MADISON, N.J. and YORK, Pa. -- Elizabethtown men's tennis was swept by a pair of Landmark Conference foes this weekend, falling at Drew, 9-0, on Saturday, and against Scranton, 9-0, on Sunday.

Drew dropped just one game in doubles and won all four singles matches that were played in straight sets to dispatch the Blue Jays (2-9, 1-3).

The Rangers' got an 8-0 victory at first doubles behind Vineet Vemulapally and Bryce Weizer, while teammates Will Morrison and Bryce Kennedy followed with an 8-1 win at second doubles.

Ryan Caris swiped three games off Vemulapally in the first set at No. 1 singles, while Tristan Boheim won two in the second against Morrison at No. 2, and Alec Schneider two in the first set against Lloyd Goldstein at No. 5.

It wasn't enough, though, as Drew (12-2, 2-1) cruised over the Blue Jays.

Scranton overpowered the Blue Jays on Sunday, indoors at Wisehaven Tennis Center in York.

The Royals (8-3, 3-1) stormed to a 3-0 lead after doubles and never looked back. Tarquin McGurrin and Keller McGurrin were 8-1 winners over Ryan Caris and Tristan Boheim at first singles, while Alexander Ochalski and Brian Harkins picked up an 8-0 sweep at second doubles.

Only four of the six doubles matches were contested, with Scranton winning all four in straight sets. Boheim hung tough in the first set against Keller McGurrin, but fell 6-4, 6-1.

Elizabethtown (2-10, 1-4) is on the road for a pair of league matches next weekend. The Blue Jays will face Goucher on Saturday at 1 p.m., and Catholic on Sunday at 1 p.m.
