Men's tennis blanked by Birmingham-Southern, Mobile

ORLANDO -- The Elizabethtown College men's tennis team suffered a pair of 9-0 setbacks to begin its Spring Break trip to Orlando, Fla., falling to Birmingham-Southern Saturday night and nationally-ranked NAIA member University of Mobile on Sunday.

Birmingham-Southern's deep lineup was able to stifle the Blue Jays, as the Panthers (3-3) won all but four games between singles and doubles.

Elizabethtown (1-2) took a game at second doubles, with Ryan Caris and Tristan Boheim dropping an 8-1 decision.

In singles play, No. 3 Tyler Spinello and No. 4 Boheim each won a first-set game off their respective opponents. No. 6 Alec Schneider claimed a game in the second set against the Panthers' Hunter Hoffmeister.

BSC's top player, Jacob Weinacker, led the way for his team with a pair of shutout performances. He teamed with Anthony Pellegrini for an 8-0 win at first doubles and swept his way to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first singles.

UNIVERSITY OF MOBILE 9, ELIZABETHTOWN 0

The Blue Jays were again put to the test on Sunday night, going up against the eighth-ranked team NAIA team in the country.

University of Mobile (9-1) and its vaunted international lineup took control with three 8-0 shutouts in doubles play and rolled to a 9-0 victory with an equally dominant effort in singles.

Elizabethtown (1-3) wasn't able to steal a set off the Rams, but for the second day in a row, No. 3 Tyler Spinello and No. 4 Tristan Boehim won a game. Sophomore Michael Ryzuk also collected a first-set game at No. 5 against Guido Evangelista.

The Blue Jays will cap their trip with a match against Clark (Mass.) back at the USTA National Campus on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
