Stinar tames Greyhounds in series finale

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Braden Stinar settled into his fourth appearance of the season after giving up an early run to shut down the Moravian bats while the Elizabethtown College baseball team piled up 10 runs on 13 hits for a 10-3 series finale win over the Greyhounds. Stinar won his first game of the season while six hitters had at least one RBI for the Blue Jays. Derek Manning had a team-high three in the game.

Moravian (7-10, 2-4 Landmark) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Mike Mittl singled to center to drive in the game's first run.

Taggart Hess got plunked on the first pitch and was able to advance to second after the right fielder attempted to double up Hess at first, but his throw over sailed over the first base to allow the center fielder to move up a bag. He made it to third on a ground out to second and Mike Christy was able to bring him home with an RBI single down the right field line to tie the game up at 1-1.

Stinar struck out two batters in each of the next three innings on his way to a season-high seven in the game. He put the side down in order in the second, got a ground out in the third with a runner in scoring position, and a foul out to end the fourth with another Greyhound in scoring position.

Elizabethtown (4-9, 1-2 Landmark) had a runner on as Hess singled up the middle on an 0-1 count to start off a big fifth inning for the Jays. James Kantner laid down the sac bunt to move the runner along. Colby Smith, Christy, and Anthony Knight all followed with singles. Smith drove in Hess from second and Knight was able to send a ball up the middle to score Smith. Riley McGinley drew a bases loaded walk that put E-town up 4-1. Manning then laced a bases-clearing double to the gap in right center to widen the lead to six, 7-1.

Anthony Cameron came on in relief of Stinar in the eighth after a line of seven innings of four-hit ball and one run allowed (unearned) with seven Ks. Cameron didn't allow a run in the eighth. Colin McTaggart finished out the game in the ninth for the Blue Jays.

Manning, a pinch hitter early in the game, finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs while Smith also had a multi-RBI effort with two. Christy, Knight, McGinley, and Brennan Snyder also had a run driven in to get E-town the first Landmark win of the season.

Elizabethtown will travel to Dickinson on Wednesday, March 28, for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference matchup.
