Game Recap: Softball |

Blass reaches 100 career hits, softball takes two from Dickinson

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Brinley Schmidt drove in the only runs the Elizabethtown College softball team would need in game one and Lindsey Fasolo knocked in a team-high two runs in game two as the Blue Jays took two from Dickinson on Monday in non-conference action. Alyssa Wilkinson and Amber Sergas both pitched complete games and held the Red Devils to three combined runs over the two games. Kirstin Blass collected her 100th career hit with a base knock in game two.

Game 1: Elizabethtown 2, Dickinson 1
Elizabethtown (12-2) was primed to take an early lead in the first with the bases loaded after three straight singles by Wendy Header, Kaitlyn Witmer, and Christina Dark. Dickinson (9-5) pitcher Killian Kueny got two straight batters out on swinging third strikes and the Red Devils escaped a jam with no damage done.

Wilkinson, coming off her perfect game a day ago, ran into trouble in the second, but a foul out to the first base side stranded a runner at third for Dickinson. Schmidt gave the sophomore a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a single to right center to score newly minted Landmark Conference Player of the Week Sarah Personette from second.

Wilkinson didn't allow a hit in the third, fourth, or sixth innings, and surrendered just a single in the fifth to Lindsey Keller, who remained on first base as a fly out and ground out ended that inning.

Schmidt lined out to the left fielder in the sixth, but it was deep enough for Dark to score from third. Dark was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The Red Devils made it interesting in the seventh. Alissa Lema drove in a run with one out to load the bases with the go-ahead run on second base. Blass flashed the leather for the second out of the inning on a pop out at the edge of the infield. The shortstop made the tough catch over her shoulder and quickly returned to her feet to hold the runner at third from advancing to save a run. Wilkinson got a ground out to second to end the game. She moved to 7-0 with the win.

Game 2: Elizabethtown 6, Dickinson 2
The Blue Jays haven't had to play from behind much so far this season, but that's what they had to do in game two. Dickinson scored two runs in the first to put E-town behind. Blass, who reached 100 career hits with a single to center to lead off the bottom of the first, drew a bases loaded walk in the second as the Jays chipped away. Fasolo singled up the middle in the third as Elizabethtown tied the game 2-2.

The game opened up in the fourth as the bats came alive for the home team. Blass drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on Header's sac bunt. Kaitlyn Witmer drove in the run with the first of five straight singles for Elizabethtown. Dark, Personette, Schmidt, and Fasolo all had base hits to follow. Personette, Schmidt, and Fasolo all recorded RBIs on their hits as the Blue Jays jumped ahead 6-2 with a four-run fourth on five hits.

After the first inning, Amber Sergas didn't allow another run to the Red Devils and finished the game out for her fourth win of the season (4-2). She struck out two in her seven innings of work.

The 4-5-6-7 hitters for Elizabethtown combined for 11 of the 15 hits in game two for EC. Dark, Schmidt, and Fasolo had three each.

Elizabethtown will head to Moravian for a Landmark Conference doubleheader against the Greyhounds on Saturday, March 24.
