ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's volleyball team improved to 7-0 at Thompson Gymnasium as a three-set sweep of Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday night in non-conference action.
Marisa Krinock lead the Jays' attack with a team-high eight kills.
Elizabethtown (11-11) jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first set.
Mackenzie Garner,
Shelly Yohe, and
Elle Shatto each had kills following a Penn State Harrisburg (9-10) attacking error that began the scoring.
Rileigh Hudock assisted on all three kills and had a game-high 28 assists, her 14th game with at least 25.
Katie Kennedy's ace made it 8-2, the largest lead of the set to that point until the Jays were up by eight later in the first set after
Sarah Schneider's kill that made it 21-13. PSH couldn't recover and E-town took set one 25-17.
A service error on Elizabethtown had the Lions within four in the second set, though PSH gave it right back with a serving error of their own. From there with Schneider serving, the Blue Jays added to that lead with six straight points to get up by double digits.
Nicole Greiner came in to serve and the next two points also went E-town's way, kills by
Elizabeth Zeiber, that made it 18-5. EC went on to dominate the second set, 25-8.
Krinock had a pair of aces to start off set three and Elizabethtown was out to a 3-0 lead, but the Lions battled back and took the lead with four consecutive points. The teams traded points up until it was 8-7 Penn State Harrisburg. Alexis Imler's ace made it 9-7 and a ball handling error on the Jays pushed it to 10-7.
The two sides battled through the middle portion of the set as Harrisburg attempted to extend the match to a fourth set. Krinock came up with six of her eight kills in the third set that propelled E-town back in front, but PSH wouldn't go away. Every time the Blue Jays took the lead after it was 15-15, the Lions tied it back up.
Kills by Garner, Schneider, and Yohe extended the lead back to three and Elizabethtown held off Penn State Harrisburg and closed out the Lions with a 25-21 third set victory to earn the sweep.
Krinock had eight kills in ten attempts, her highest attack percentage of the season as Elizabethtown hit .373 on the night, the team's highest attack percentage of the season as well. Shatto led the Jays with eight digs.
The Blue Jays will take part in the Lycoming Warrior Tip-Off Classic in Williamsport, Pa. with games on Friday and Saturday. E-town plays Lycoming on Friday at 4 p.m. and Medaille at 6 p.m.
