Men's soccer moves to top of Landmark table with 2-0 win at Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Elizabethtown extended its unbeaten streak to seven games and took over sole possession of first place in the Landmark Conference with a 2-0 win at Scranton on Saturday afternoon.

Gilbert Waso scored his third goal in two games and Tyler Colasanto netted his first of the year as the Jays tallied once in each half against the Royals. E-town hasn't lost a game in Scranton since joining the Landmark Conference (2-0-1).

Scranton (3-8-2, 1-3 Landmark) made an early push, with all four of its first-half shots coming in the first 16:14. Two were off target, one was blocked and another was stopped by Blue Jay keeper Brian Gately.

Waso took a thru ball from freshman Jorge Sanchiz, got behind the defense and deposited a shot past Scranton backstop Jake Hodlofski for a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute. It would stand up as Waso's 13th career game-winning goal.

The goal also helped Waso continue his climb up Elizabethtown's all-time scoring list. A game removed from reaching 100 career points, Waso jumped William Hoar (1956-59) for 10th-place with points 102 and 103. The senior forward sits a point behind Mark Pratzner (1986-89) for ninth.

E-town (5-4-3, 3-0-1) ended the half with an 8-4 shot advantage and came back looking for more in the second.

Hodlofski stopped JD Haaf on two occasions, but persistence paid off for the Jays in the 75th minute when Colasanto corralled a long free kick from Mitchell Gochnauer and scored his first goal of the season to provide the visitors some breathing room.

Gately needed only to make one save in the final 45 minutes. The senior stopped a shot from Kieran Bracken in the 78th minute, posted his fifth clean sheet of the season and ran his scoreless streak to 445:23 since Sept. 19.

The Blue Jays defense has been stout in front of Gately as well. Elizabethtown is the only Landmark team yet to allow a goal in conference play (7-0).

Elizabethtown held a 16-11 advantage in shots (7-2 on goal) and a 6-4 edge in corners. Hodlofski totaled five saves for the Royals.

The Blue Jays sit a point ahead of Catholic, Drew and Moravian in the Landmark standings with two weeks left in the regular season. E-town travels to Bethlehem for a league game against Moravian on Wednesday evening at 7.
