Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Conlon, Lawson lead women's soccer over York

YORK, Pa. -- In its final road game of a four-game span away from Ira R Herr Field, the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team doubled up York (Pa.) Wednesday night in non-conference action at Graham Field. Lydia Lawson and Shannon Conlon scored first-half goals and the Blue Jays were able to hang on, 2-1.

For the second time in as many games, Lawson put her name on the score sheet for Elizabethtown (5-2-1). Her goal in the sixth minute put the Jays ahead 1-0 early on. It was her team-leading sixth of the season.

Nearly ten minutes later, goalie Hailey Parks made a save on Natalie McCarthy, York's (1-6-1) first attempt on frame. She also stopped Caitlin Rankin a few minutes later to keep E-town ahead.

Conlon gave the Jays some insurance in the 26th minute with her first goal of the season. Lawson fed a pass through a pair of defenders to Conlon at the right corner of the 6-yard box and the senior from Belcamp, Maryland, fired it past Spartan keeper Jess Wieber.

The E-town defense did not allow a single shot the final 25 minutes of the first half and took that 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Spartans came alive in the second half to test Elizabethtown. YCP registered the first four shots of the final 45 minutes, two of which needed to be saved by Parks.

E-town maintained its 2-0 lead through the latter stages of the game, though York made it interesting in the 81st on Rankin's second of the season that found the top left corner of the goal.

Parks needed one final stop, a save in the 88th minute on Rachel Wilheim, to earn the win, her fifth of the season. She finished with six saves.

Elizabethtown will roll back into Landmark Conference play, opening its home slate of league games with Scranton on Saturday, September 30 at 12 p.m.
