Garner earns first career Landmark Athlete of the Week honor

TOWSON, Md. -- Elizabethtown junior middle hitter Mackenzie Garner was selected as the Landmark Conference Volleyball Athlete of the Week Monday afternoon, a long overdue honor for the two-time all-conference selection.

Garner was terrific, as were many of her teammates, in going 4-0 last week and extending the Blue Jays' winning streak to six-matches. The Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, native was named to the Arcadia Knights Invitational All-Tournament Team after leading E-town to wins over Rowan, Washington College and Arcadia.

Garner compiled 49 kills and 16 blocks for the week, reaching double digits in kills in all four matches, three of which ended in sweeps for the Blue and Gray. She was extremely effective, hitting .446 on 83 attempts, including a near perfect outing against Rowan, Friday, that featured 11 kills and no errors on 12 attempts (.917).

Garner had at least three blocks in all four matches, culminating with a 15-kill, five-block (four solos) performance against Arcadia, Saturday. She averaged 1.23 blocks per set last week with seven solos and nine assists.

The 2016 All-Landmark First Team and 2015 Second Team pick currently leads the conference in solo blocks (16), while ranking second in hitting percentage (.384), third in blocks per set (0.98), fourth in kills per set (3.56) and seventh in total kills (153).
