Lasky aids in Blue Jays' comeback effort, down Drew 2-1

MADISON, N.J. -- Winning on the road, especially in conference play, is never an easy task. The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team trailed for over 60 minutes in Saturday's Landmark Conference opener at Drew, but came away with a 2-1 win.

Elizabethtown (4-2-1, 1-0-0 Landmark) had the first two shots of Saturday's game, both coming from Katrina Morales, but wound up behind in the 13th minute when Leah Dentale put Drew (5-3-0, 0-1-0 Landmark) ahead on the Ranger's first shot attempt.

E-town was generating opportunities, but they weren't getting on goal. The Blue Jays had seven first-half shots, but Drew goalie Madison Dudziec did not need to make any saves.

Morales did test Dudziec in the 51st minute, but the Rangers' goalie made the stop to protect the 1-0 lead.

Madison Burnham came the closest E-town player to scoring, but her effort smacked the post in the 69th minute. Catherine Hughes put a shot on frame minutes later, but Dudziec was there for the stop.

There was a handball in the box on Drew in the 74th minute and Elizabethtown had a golden opportunity to equalize. Lydia Lawson did just that, scoring from the spot, her fifth of the season, to knot the game up at 1-1 with a little over 16 minutes to go.

The Blue Jays sustained their pressure and over the next seven minutes had the Rangers on their heels. It all paid off when a pair of freshman connected to give E-town the lead. Janelle Barna assisted on Alli Lasky's go-ahead goal, the first of her career, in the 81st minute.

Drew struggled the final ten minutes and had one final chance, in the 89th minute, but Alex Gilgorri's shot was blocked. Time ran out and E-town came away with the 2-1 road victory and crucial away points.

Elizabethtown doubled Drew in shots, 16-8, and shots on goal, 4-2. Hailey Parks made one save in the win.

The Blue Jays play at York (Pa.) on Wednesday, September 27 at 7 p.m.
