Falcons use second-half surge to down Blue Jays

GRANTHAM, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team held nationally-ranked No. 12 Messiah in check for 45 minutes, but the Falcons broke through in the second half on its way to a 4-0 win over the Blue Jays Wednesday night at Shoemaker Field in non-conference action.

Hailey Parks did a number on Messiah (4-1-2) over the entirety of the first half. The senior was tested by the Falcons and was able to answer each came Messiah came with a scoring opportunity. Six of Park's career-high ten saves came in the first half.

Parks and the Elizabethtown (3-2-1) held the Falcons scoreless going into the half.

Lindsay Hoagland registered what turned out to be the Jays' only shot of the game in the 44th minute, but her effort went wide of the net.

The Falcons' pressure finally paid off in the 50th minute when Julia Kyne followed up her own blocked shot attempt to score for the hosts and put them up 1-0. Less than four minutes later, the lead doubled to 2-0.

Messiah held E-town shotless in the second half and tallied twice more in the final 18 minutes of the game to put the lead up to 4-0.

The Falcons outshot the Blue Jays 18-1 and finished with three corner kicks to just one for E-town.

Elizabethtown will play at Drew on Saturday, September 23, at 1 p.m. to open Landmark Conference play.
