Spinello, pair of doubles teams reach finals at King's Invitational

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- Sophomore Tyler Spinello brought home a runner-up finish at third singles and two of Elizabethtown's three doubles teams also advanced to the finals at this weekend's King's College Invitational.

Spinello, who received a first round bye, won his semifinal match over Marywood's Bryon Scholl 6-2, 6-1, but ran into Cabrini's Nick Falcone for the flight title and saw those scores reversed in a 6-1, 6-2 defeat.

Spinello reached the final at first doubles with sophomore teammate Connor Martin after two commanding victories. The Blue Jays' top duo downed Misericordia's Jason Curtis and Murph Lynch 8-3 in their opening round match and were 8-2 victors in the semifinals against Danny Lynn and Jorey Ferraro from DeSales.

Facing off against Nathan Carl and Tyler Millan from host King's in the final, Spinello and Martin fought back from match point to even the match at seven games apiece before falling, 9-7.

E-town also placed its No. 2 doubles tandem of Ryan Caris and Tristan Boheim in the finals. Caris and Boheim were nearly perfect through their first two matches, dropping just one game. They blanked Misericordia's Alec Aversa and Ethan Snyder in the first round and blew past Marywood's Scholl and Cole Strange, 8-1, in the semis.

Cabrini's Falcone and Ben Mead would get the best of Caris and Boheim in the final, however, taking the match comfortably, 8-1.

While the Jays were unable to advance anyone other than Spinello to the finals in singles play, three players won first round matches. At No. 1, Martin beat Marywood's Steven Price 6-0, 6-2, but was stopped by Carl (King's) in the semifinals. No. 2 Caris swept Marywood's Dev Patel 6-0, 6-0, but also fell victim to a King's player in the semis, as Tyler Millan got past the E-town senior 6-0, 6-2. Finally, at No. 5, sophomore Julian LeMaire won a hard-fought battle with DeSales' Cameron Germano 6-4, 6-3, before falling to Cabrini's Tripp Como 6-4, 6-2 in semifinal action.
