Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Offense, defense in sync as women's soccer shuts out Lebanon Valley 3-0

ANNVILLE, Pa. -- Lydia Lawson and Janelle Barna made sure the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team didn't need a fourth straight overtime to help decide a game on Saturday at Lebanon Valley. Lawson netted a pair and Barna added her second of the season for the Blue Jays in a 3-0 victory over the Dutchmen. It was the third time in five games E-town did not concede a goal.

Elizabethtown (3-1-1) was in control early on. Lindsay Hoagland's corner in the third minute found the head of Katrina Morales, who put her header on frame. The shot, though, was stopped by Emma Strickler.

The Blue Jays' next shot was the game's first goal. Lawson latched on to Kristin Wilkinson's throw in that put the sophomore in on a breakaway. Lawson did the rest, scoring left side to give E-town a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute.

13 minutes later, at 17:00 exactly, Tuesday night's overtime hero, Barna, made it a second consecutive game with a goal. Madison Burnham crossed the ball into the box. The ball found Barna on the far side and her shot went far post to make it 2-0 to Elizabethtown.

Strickler kept Lebanon Valley (2-1-2) at 2-0 with a pair of saves on back-to-back chances by Burnham in the 19th and 23rd minutes.

Meanwhile, the Jays' defense kept starting goalie Hailey Parks clean. Parks wasn't needed to make a stop until the 39th minute when she faced the first shot on goal by LVC. Kristina Gorton's shot was blocked. Kira Pushart wound up with it and sent a shot in on net, but Parks made her first and only save of the game.

Lawson advanced E-town's lead to 3-0 in the 63rd minute with her second of the game. It was her second time in three games she's played scoring twice. With both players in front, Shannon Conlon provided the assist to secure Lawson's brace.

Parks, who didn't face a single shot in the second half, was replaced by Christine Fox, who made her collegiate debut on Saturday. Fox made a pair of saves on Rileigh Jo Evitts minutes apart that kept the combined shutout alive. They were the only two shots on goal over the final 45 minutes for Lebanon Valley, and only had three on goal over the entire 90.

Elizabethtown finished with a 15-10 advantage in shots, putting nine on goal. LVC managed a plus-one in the corner kick department, 4-3.

The Blue Jays, in the midst now of a four-game road trip, will play at Messiah on Wednesday, September 20 at 7 p.m.
