Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Barna nets golden goal, E-town upends Ursinus in overtime

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team have needed extra time the last two games, with Tuesday's non-conference game with Ursinus being no different. The Bears and Blue Jays went into overtime, but Janelle Barna's goal in the 93rd minute made sure it didn't last long and gave the Jays the win.

Alli Lasky was inches from putting Elizabethtown (2-1-1) ahead in the 12th minute, but her shot rattled off the inside part of the right post and back into the arms of Marisa Kalkstein.

Katrina Morales had a couple shot attempts blocked and one saved, but her left-footed drive from outside the 18 in the 21st minute found netting to give E-town a 1-0 lead. Morales was able to shake a defender and put the ball on her left foot to beat Kalkstein to the left side. It was the senior's first of the season.

Exactly eight minutes later, though, Ursinus (0-4-1) evened up the score. Emma Russell chipped a ball up to Kendall Couch, who took a touch and lifted a shot to the far post. The ball landed safely in the right side netting the tie the score in the 29th minute.

The Jays had a last-ditch go at goal with under ten seconds left in the first half. Lindsay Hoagland's corner found the head of Sophie McKnight, but her header fell wide of goal and the half expired. It was 1-1 at the break.

Hailey Parks made three second-half saves, providing her offense the opportunity to seek out the go-ahead goal. Barna had a header attempt stopped early in the half. Lydia Lawson struck a ball that went just right of goal in the 68th minute.

Lasky was in the box with a scoring chance in the late stages of the game, but from a tight angle, couldn't squeeze the ball by Kalkstein, who narrowed the angle even more and made the save.

Lawson and Alex Jacobs each had shots in the final two minutes, but Kalkstein saved both and overtime was needed.

Only 2:42 of overtime was needed and Barna made sure of it. The freshman took a feed from Alex Jacobs, settled the ball, and squared toward goal. She lofted a shot from 25 yards out that sailed over the outstretched arms of the keeper and landed in the goal, sending the Blue Jays' bench racing onto the field to hug the game-winning goal scorer. It was Barna's first goal of her career.

Elizabethtown finished with a 20-11 advantage in shots and had four corners to two for Ursinus. Parks and Kalkstein had seven saves each.

The Blue Jays are at Lebanon Valley on Saturday, September 16 at 1 p.m.
