Mid-Atlantic Regional the destination for Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Landmark Conference champion Elizabethtown was one of eight teams slotted into the Mid-Atlantic Regional of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship tournament, as the organization released the 56-team field Monday.

It was a fortunate draw in terms of travel for the Blue Jays. This year's Mid-Atlantic Regional is being held less than 30 miles away at PeoplesBank Park in York, home of the Atlantic League's York Revolution, and being hosted by the Middle Atlantic Conference, the Revolution and Sport York. The double-elimination tournament begins this Thursday, May 18, with games throughout the weekend and on Monday, May 22, if necessary.

Making its first appearance since going in as the MAC Commonwealth champion in 2009, Elizabethtown was awarded the No. 6 seed in the regional. Coach Cliff Smith's club will face No. 3 seed Wheaton (Mass.), which earned one of 13 available Pool C at-large bids. The Lyons, from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) are 23-14 on the season, but played 22 of their 37 games against regionally-ranked opponents.

The Mid-Atlantic Regional features a pair of top 10 nationally-ranked teams in the D3baseball.com Top 25. Top-seeded Johns Hopkins is currently No. 2 in the country, while second-seeded Shenandoah checks in at No. 8. Also joining the pod are No. 4 seed RIT, No. 5 Alvernia, No. 7 SUNY Maritime and No. 8 Lesley.
