Fackler becomes new career hits leader for E-town in win over Juniata

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- It took three at-bats Saturday afternoon, but senior Kyle Fackler finally etched his name in the record books as the Elizabethtown College baseball team's new career hits leader with a pair in E-town's 15-5 win over Juniata. Fackler went 2-for-3 in the game.

Fellow senior Kevin Elwell was on the bump for Elizabethtown (19-13, 7-6 Landmark) to start a critical series for the Blue Jays, who are fighting for a postseason spot in the Landmark Conference Tournament.

Juniata (6-29, 1-12 Landmark) got to Elwell early, with an RBI double and RBI single in the first that put the Eagles ahead 2-0 after the top half of the first inning.

The deficit quickly turned to a lead in the next half as the Blue Jays provided plenty of run support for Elwell. Mike Christy singled to center with the bases loaded, scoring Fackler and Richy Masciarelli. Frank Ragozzino collected an RBI in the inning and Nick Bein scored on a wild pitch as the Jays took a 5-2 lead into the second.

Juniata got within 5-3 on Devin McLaughlin's RBI single to right center in the third, but the Eagles wouldn't get any closer after that. The righty threw seven innings and surrendered four runs with five strikeouts and wound up with his sixth win of the season. Ben Thorpe provided two innings of relief and fanned two.

E-town blew the doors off the game with a big third-inning. Christy and Bein were both hit by pitches, while Nick Lorenz had singled between the two hit batsmen. Ragozzino hit a sac fly to right and James Kantner drove in a pair with a single to center. That set up Fackler's third at-bat of the day and second chance at grabbing the hits record after he walked in the second inning.

Juniata had made a pitching change after Kantner's two-RBI base hit as Josiah Lynn came in to face the Harrisburg, Pa. native. Fackler liked the first pitch he saw, shooting a single through the right side to eclipse 200 and take his place as the all-time hits leader at 201.

Colby Smith added a two-run single through the left side before the Eagles got the final out.

Kantner and Smith added RBIs to their total in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively. Brian Portillo hit it deep enough to right for the sac fly RBI in the sixth, and Riley McGinley hit a pinch-hit single up the middle to plate Masciarelli, who led off the seventh with a walk.

Masciarelli and Kantner each had three hits to lead Elizabethtown, who had 14 in the game by nine different batters. Fackler added two, while Smith, Doug Hook, Christy, Lorenz, McGinley, and Ragozzino each had one. Smith and Kantner tied with a team-high three RBIs.

The series will pick up tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. Senior Day will take place prior to the start of game one.
