Blue Jays take one of two from Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team finished off its non-conference portion of the schedule with a make-up doubleheader at Dickinson on Thursday. The Red Devils took game one, but the Blue Jays came back in game two to earn the split.

Game 1: Dickinson 4, Elizabethtown 0
Dickinson (10-24) did its damage in the first three innings. Nicole Clayton singled to right and scored Nicole Torlincasi to put the Devils up 1-0 in the first.

Dickinson added a run in the second and two more in the third to make it 4-0.

Elizabethtown (6-28) struggled offensively through the first four innings, but got the bats going in the fifth. Christina Dark and Kelsey Brown led off the inning with singles. The Red Devils came up with a double play and a pop out to get out of the inning.

E-town could only manage one more hit the rest of the way as Dickinson held the Jays scoreless to took game one, 4-0.

Game 2: Elizabethtown 3, Dickinson 1
Dickinson grabbed a 1-0 lead for the second time on the day with an RBI single in the fourth after neither team could produce a run in the first three innings.

Elizabethtown came back in the next half inning with a pair of runs. Heather Heckert and Nicole Heckert both drove in runs as the Jays took a 2-1 lead.

Kelsey Brown reached on an error in the sixth that allowed Emma Varrato to score an insurance runs for EC.

Dark pitched the entirety of game two, going all seven innings, allowing just four hits and one run to earn her first win of the season. Brittany Ritter also had a hit for E-town.

The Blue Jays, with some help, can still get into the Landmark Conference Tournament with a sweep at Juniata on Saturday, April 29.
