Rhodes helps pave way to season-ending split at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Typically fast starters, the Elizabethtown College softball team took a few innings to get going in each game on Sunday at Juniata. The Eagles rallied in game one to force extras and win with a walk-off, while the Blue Jays got out in front in game two and didn't look back to secure a split in the regular season finale.

Game 1: Juniata 4, Elizabethtown 3 (F/8)
Jess Kutteroff broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth with an RBI single to score Brittany Ritter as Elizabethtown (7-29, 3-9) grabbed a 1-0 lead. Kelsey Farrington added to it in the sixth with a sacrifice fly RBI to center. Morgan Herr scored on the play.

Juniata (14-21, 4-8) tied it in the bottom half of the sixth with one swing. Jennifer Carthew drove in two with a base hit down the right line to tie the game 2-2.

Without another run, game one headed to extras. Emma Varrato scored on Kelsey Brown's fielder's choice RBI to give the Jays a 3-2 lead in the eighth.

The Eagles were able to plate two runs in the bottom of the eighth and won on Allie Baney's RBI single up the middle to score to game-winning run.

Game 2: Elizabethtown 7, Juniata 3
Abby Ebright drove in game two's opening run with an RBI base hit to give an early 1-0 lead to Juniata. Molly Ulrich doubled home two runs two batters later and the Eagles led 3-0 after the first.

E-town responded in the fourth with a four-run inning that gave the Jays the lead. Christina Dark single to right center to allow Brown and Varrato to score. Megan Elmer added an RBI in the inning with a single through the right side and Kutteroff provided the fourth and final run of the fourth with a single to third.

Up just a run entering the sixth, Mara Rhodes tacked on two runs to give Elizabethtown some breathing room. Rhodes tripled to right center to score Elmer and Heather Heckert. Heckert singled in a run in the seventh that made it 7-3.

Alyssa Wilkinson pitched all seven innings for the complete game win, the first of her career. Rhodes and Dark each had two RBIs in the game-two win to lead the Jays.
