Spinello wins first career match, Jays fall at Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. -- Freshman Tyler Spinello picked up his first career win Sunday as Elizabethtown dropped a Landmark Conference match at Scranton, 8-1.

Spinello missed the Blue Jays' Spring Break matches due to injury, but had been searching for his first win since drawing into the lineup back on March 25, against Drew.

The Lewisburg native got it, Sunday, with a strong performance in a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over the Royals' Brandon Ostrowski at No. 4 singles.

Spinello's win accounted for E-town's (2-5, 0-1 Landmark) lone point on the day.

Scranton (3-7, 1-0) reached the semifinals of the Landmark Conference Championships last season and was in control of the match after sweeping doubles.

The Blue Jays put up a fight at No. 3, where Spinello and Nick Strobel fell by an 8-4 score to Christian Aksu and Emmett Ryan. The Royals' exceptional play continued in singles, where their five wins all came in straight sets.

Elizabethtown is scheduled to make up its non-conference match at King's (Pa.) on Monday at 4 p.m.
